University of Aarhus smoking policy

Rules

Lov om røgfri miljøer (Danish version only)

LOV nr. 512 af 06/06/2007

At Aarhus University, smoking indoors has been prohibited throughout the entire campus since 1 January 2008. The smoking ban also includes e-cigarettes.

Smoking outdoors is permitted in accordance with local guidelines.

The smoking policy applies to staff, students and visitors.

The ban on smoking indoors also applies to special events such as receptions, Friday bars, parties etc. held at Aarhus University premises.

Aarhus University establishes proper outdoor smoking areas.

Employees or students who do not comply with the ban on smoking should receive a reprimand and must be asked to adhere to the smoking ban.

In connection with repeat offences by a staff member, it is the responsibility of the local management to take measures in accordance with the general rules on sanctions for improper conduct while on duty.

Students who repeatedly violate the smoking ban will be treated according to ‘Rules regarding disciplinary measures for students at Aarhus University’ of 1 April 2016.

The local liaison committees may draw up more detailed guidelines with a possible limitation or ban on smoking in special outdoor areas such as balconies, indoor courtyards and at entrances.

These rules enter into force on 1 July 2016.

In the event of any inconsistency between the Danish and English language versions of the document, the Danish version prevails.
