Welcome to AU

All new employees at Aarhus University can receive a welcome package, participate in an introductory meeting and find help online.

2013.09.03 | Jette Revsgaard

The person responsible for introducing new employees to the workplace can order a welcome package in advance. This person might be a manager, secretary or colleague.

The welcome package is available in both Danish and English, and it consists of:

  • A welcome folder containing useful practical information
  • The AU profile brochure
  • AU’s strategy
  • Facts
  • A map of AU
  • The AU personnel policy
  • Information Security
  • Material from the employee’s own department, center or main academic area (where available)
  • Special material for international employees (English version only)

The welcome package can be ordered starting on 1 September 2013 at www.au.dk/en/newemployee.

Introductory meetings

AU HR plans introductory meetings in Danish as well as English which are open to all new employees. Registration is required. The meetings take place in Aarhus, and the programme includes the following:

  • Welcome by the senior management team
  • Practical AU information
  • Guided tour of the University Park in Aarhus

In addition to the practical information, the meetings give new members of staff a good opportunity to build a network at the university right from the start.

Meetings are announced at www.au.dk/en/newemployee, and in the AU calendar.

Sign up for introductory meetings at www.au.dk/en/newemployee. New employees can sign up themselves or by a manager, secretary or colleague.

A welcome package and introductory meeting are offered to all salaried employees and PhDs. Part-time teaching staff and other non-full time employees are welcome to participate if their local manager wishes them to do so.

New website

At www.au.dk/en/newemployee all relevant information for new employees and for persons responsible for receiving a new employee is gathered.

On the website you can find:

  • A checklist:  what should I remember to do when I get a new employee or colleague?
  • Information on ordering information for new employees
  • Sign up for an introductory meeting
  • Useful links for new employees

All AU employees have a responsibility to help welcome new "AU citizens".  The new initiatives should make this easier, and AU HR encourages all units to agree on a standard procedure for introduction locally, which encompasses both the welcome package and the introductory meeting.
