According to Dean Johnny Laursen, Lehmann has all the qualifications required to continue his work as Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Arts. Lehmann has been acting Vice-Dean since 1 October 2015. There were a total of nine applicants for the position.

"I’m very happy to announce the appointment of Niels Lehmann as Vice-Dean for Education. In his short time as acting Vice-Dean, Niels has demonstrated his commitment, energy and expertise in the field of education. I know that his work is highly valued in our academic environments, and I can only say that I and the rest of the faculty management team look forward to continuing to work with him," says Dean Johnny Laursen.

One of the most important tasks for Lehmann as Vice-Dean will be to adjust the degree programmes conducted at Arts to match the current situation created by recent political reforms: for example, degree programme resizing, study progress reform and the demand to make two-percent cuts each year.

"We have a major task ahead of us, because the reforms are so big that they will no doubt change our daily lives. As head of the school with the highest number of study programmes at the faculty, I have already had to deal with these issues, and I’m ready to do everything I can to find the right solutions at faculty level. I hope that the recommendations I have recently issued to conclude the review of our degree programmes will turn out to be an important step on the way," says Lehmann.

Strong point of departure

Niels Lehmann, 54 is a dramaturgy graduate. He has previously worked as head of school at Aarhus University for almost 13 years. After a period as director of studies for dramaturgy, he became manager of the Department of Aesthetics in 2003 shortly after it was formed following a merger of the arts and aesthetics subjects at AU. After the merger of the Humanities, Theology and the Danish School of Education in 2011, Lehmann became Head of the Department of Aesthetics and Communication, where he guided the amalgamation into the entity which is now called the School of Communication and Culture. Under Niels Lehmann's management, the school has developed into a single entity characterised by excellent teamwork between the individual degree programmes.

Lehmann is looking forward to his tasks in the role as Vice-Dean for Education.

"Even though it’s a little uphill at the moment, we must remember that we have a very strong starting point. Our degree programmes are basically of a very high quality, and I look forward to the task of creating the best possible framework for them to be developed further. It was a great pleasure to discuss quality development with the many committed teachers and programme planners who participated in the status and evaluation meetings I carried out last autumn. At these meetings it was made abundantly clear to me that our academic environments display their enormous professionalism and creativity as they work towards finding sustainable didactic solutions for our future degree programmes."
