New research committee at Aarhus BSS

Aarhus BSS has just appointed a new interdisciplinary research committee to advise the Dean's Office and the faculty management team on key research-related issues. The committee will also be a forum for exchanging experiences across the school, says Vice-dean for Research Per Baltzer Overgaard.

From now on, Aarhus BSS’ new research committee will be a forum for strategic research discussions across the school. The committee will act as a sounding board for the Dean's Office and the faculty management team on matters pertaining to research and consultations - and thus the committee will support the vice-dean for research in his efforts to secure the school’s research-related interests at AU and in society.

The new research committee consists of one member from each department. The members have been appointed by the heads of department. Members are either deputy head of department for research or an equivalent management representative with research responsibility. Associate Dean for EU financing Niels Mejlgaard is also a member, and Vice-dean for Research Per Baltzer Overgaard is chair. He is pleased with the composition of the committee:

“We’ve put together a strong team of experienced senior VIPs, who’ve all taken on the task with great enthusiasm,” he says. “It’s very important that we can now draw on such talented and experienced people in research-related questions – both internally at AU and in relation to the world around us. I really look forward to working with the committee in the future.”

Benefits of exchanging experiences

Another key purpose of the committee is to provide members from across the school with a setting for exchanging experiences concerning e.g. applications to large foundations/calls - and for discussing ideas for new interdisciplinary projects and research initiatives. Vice-dean Per Baltzer Overgaard is pleased that the school’s departments now have forum in which they can discuss research-related topics across academic fields:

“Despite their differences, our six departments face many of the same challenges in terms of external funding and publication,” he says. “In these matters, we can learn a lot from talking to each other. I hope that the committee becomes a forum where we draw on each other’s experiences for the benefit of the entire school and the individual departments.”

The new committee convened for the first time on 10 January and is expected to meet four times a year or as the need arises.
