Framework
The framework for our service is the faculty's expectations of the academic staff's research production; cf. Research supervision at Arts (http://medarbejdere.au.dk/hovedomraader/ar/forskningstilsyn/ ) (In Danish).
Language Services’ goal is to ensure that the academic staff’s English-language peer-reviewed research is written in appropriate, precise and correct English that reflects the quality of the faculty's research.
Who and what?
Provided that sufficient resources are available, Language Services offers English-language copyediting free of charge to academic staff in accordance with the following guidelines:
- Research papers targeted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and books
- Up to 18,000 words per member of academic staff per year
In addition, we offer copyediting of the following kinds of texts:
- English summaries of PhD and higher doctoral dissertations
- Calls for papers
- Abstracts
- Applications for research projects
- PhD assessments
Our service covers the copyediting of running text and notes but not the correction of reference lists or formatting.
Requests outside the scope of our service
Due to our limited resources, we are unable to accommodate requests for copyediting of
- Oral presentations for conferences and seminars
- Non-peer-reviewed contributions to conference publications
- Chapters of PhD dissertations
- Book manuscripts and the like
- Contributions to anthologies etc. written by researchers outside Arts
- Papers written in other languages than English
We are happy to facilitate contact to qualified external language consultants in connection with these kinds of texts. In such cases, the author is responsible for arranging funding for the project.
Time frames and deadlines
Projects are handled on a 'first come, first served' basis. With the exception of very short texts (up to 1500 words), we strongly recommend that you book your project well in advance of the desired delivery date – about two months if at all possible.
This is particularly important in connection with large and complex projects, or if the copyediting project is for a period in which we typically have lower capacity (e.g. around holidays and in the summer holiday period).
We strive to comply with requests regarding deadlines, but as a rule of thumb, copyediting jobs are completed within the following time frames after the agreed start date for the project:
- two to five days for a short text (up to 2,000 words)
- two to three weeks for texts no longer than 20 pages (up to 8,000 words)
- three to four for texts between 20 and 25 pages (8-10,000 words)
You are always welcome to contact us and inquire whether your text can be copyedited within a shorter time frame.
