Definition of publication types in Pure

Definition of peer-review:

”A publication is peer reviewed when a professional review and evaluation of a publication by competent/expert colleagues is done, prior to acceptance in a journal. Peer reviews can be anonymous or be done by editorial staff. Dependent on different traditions, the way it is done may vary.”

PUBLICATION TYPES

Contribution to journal/Conference contribution in journal/contribution to newspaper

A journal is published in a consecutive number of volumes/issues, as a series with the same journal title. The journal will usually have an ISSN-number, e.g. ISSN 1234-5679.

Newspapers contains news about current events of common interest, to a wide audience. Usually published daily/more than once weekly.

Journal article

Coherent article that presents and discusses new findings / research results. Published in a journal, where it may have a predefined target group.

Conference article

Coherent article usually published on basis of a conference. The article presents and discusses new findings / research results. It may have a predefined target group.

Letter

A letter shortly presents new research findings. Also known as 'short communication' (do confuse with 'letters to the editor').

Review

An article that gives a summary and analysis of published research within a research area. Might be limited to a specific time period.

Literature review

A critical review and evaluation of another scientific publication, e.g. a book or other document.

Editorial

An article-like text with a journal's official opinion about a current subject.

Comment/debate

Short commentary or debate contribution, published in a journal, that targets e.g. previously printed articles. "Letters to the editor", should also be registrered here.

Conference abstract in journal

A short condensed preview of a (scientific) article or work, presented at a conference.

Contribution to newspaper - Newspaper article

Article which mediates/communicates to a wide audience with a popular, debating, referring representation of a subject.

Contribution to newspaper - Feature article

Article with a permanent location in a newspaper. Written by someone not related to the newspaper, usually as a comment to current issues.

Contribution to newspaper - Review

Review of a publication / work in a newspaper.

Contribution to newspaper - Comment/debate

Short comment or contribution to the debate, which deals with a previously published article, general social conditions or the like.

Book/anthology/dissertation/report

Books, dissertations, as well as anthologies/collected works where the author(s) are responsible for the entire work. Books and anthologies might have an ISBN-number (a unique 10- or 13-digit code given to any book.

If the author(s) are responsible for only partof a book/dissertation/report/anthology the contribution is registered as 'Contribution to book/anthology/report/proceeding'. 

Book

Stand-alone work, based on the author's own research/knowledge. The content is primarily directed at a predefined target audience

Anthology

Collected work where the contributions are gathered from a comprehensive view, commenced by an editor/editorial staff.

Report

A report is a publication that typically presents results from an elucidation work. Reports are often published by the institution in charge of the work. Reports, with an applicant, must be registered in the category "commission".

Doctoral thesis

Dissertation that led to the acquisition of a doctorate.

Ph.D. thesis

Dissertation that led to the acquisition of a Ph.D. If the dissertation is later published by a commercial publisher this is registered separately as a book.

Compendium/lecture notes

Teaching material, published by the institution.

Contribution to book/anthology/report/proceeding

Submit monographs; books, dissertations or reports, as well as anthologies/collected works where the author(s) only are responsible for part of the work, e.g. a chapter. The host publication might have an ISBN-number.

Book chapter

Article published in an anthology/collected work or in a book.

Article in proceedings

Article published in an anthology/collected work or in a book. The article is written based on a presentation at a conference.

Report chapter

Article published in a report.

Encyclopedia entry

Article in an encyclopedia.

Comment

Elaborating commentary on e.g. collections on laws or source materials.

Preface/postscript

Contribution to book/anthology/report prior to the main text (preface/prologue), as well as after this (postscript/epilogue)

Compendium/lecture notes chapter

Articles published in teaching material, published by the institution

Letter, comments, debate

Review

An article that gives a summary and analysis of published research within a research area. Might be limited to a specific time period.

Contribution to conference

Article, abstract or poster, made in connection with a conference. If published in a journal or a proceeding the contribution may not be registered in this category. Instead, it should be registered in either 'Contribution to journal/Conference contribution in journal' or 'Contribution to book/anthology/report/proceeding'.

Poster

A visual presentation of an academic subject presented at a conference.

Conference abstract for conference

A summary of a scientific work that is presented at a conference.

Paper

Scientific text, prepared in advance of a conference and made available at the conference's or institution's own website, but is not published in a journal / proceeding

Working paper


Working paper

A working paper is a document that constitutes an early version of a publication. Working papers are primarily used for exchanging ideas or to get feedback, before submitting it to a publisher. Working papers are usually published by the authors own institution.

Memorandum/exposition

Academic/professional elucidation, analysis or investigation, that is not published in a the form of an actual report. E.g. a note, elucidation or other inquiries related to the parliament, ministries, councils or regions handling of cases or law-preparing work.

Elucidation and note must be covered by a duty of journalisation, which means it must have a journal number.

Memorandum

Professional analysis or investigation, that is not an actual report. E.g. a response to the Folketing, ministries, municipalities or regions in trial or pre-legislative work. If governed by filing obligation the journal file number must be given.

Question & answer/hearing

Written answers to questions raised within the Folketing, ministries, municipalities or regions trial or pre-legislative work. If governed by filing obligation the journal file number must be given.

 

 

Contribution to memorandum/exposition

Contribution to written answers to questions raised in within the Folketing, ministries, municipalities or regions trial or pre-legislative work. If governed by filing obligation the journal file number must be given.

Patent


Patent

A patent or published patent application is an exclusive right granted to a technological invention for a limited period, typically 20 years.

The rights are conferred by a patent office at the national or supranational level.

Non-textual form

Production that does not have a traditional text form (such as articles and books ).

If the production is accompanied by a written publication that explains the principles behind or the process towards production, the written publication is registered independently as a regular publication.

Computer programme

Stand-alone software for execution of specific tasks.

Dataset

A collection of structured data (measurements, observations etc.) in a specific format, which forms the basis for a particular research result.

Interactive production

Productions where the user can affect the product's actions. Examples are games, e-learning modules, information stands, interactive guides for museums etc.

Sound/Visual production (digital)

Productions based on one-way communication. The user has no ability to affect the product's actions. Examples are podcasts, animations, photos and sound recordings.

2D/3D (physical products)

Maps, sculptures, models, paintings, art, installations etc.

Other

Other contributions that do not fit into the other categories.

Net publication - Internet publication

Text published on the internet. This includes e.g. texts on websites and entries on blog- and wikies

Other contribution Material that does not fit into the other categories.
