Installing and setting up the Outlook app

Outlook for Android

These guidelines are based on a Huawei Mate 10 Pro with Android 8.0.0. The screenshots may vary slightly from mobile to mobile.

AU IT recommends that you use Microsoft Outlook for your Android device. Support is not provided for apps other than Outlook for Android. Because of the requirement for two-step authentication many other email apps no longer work. Outlook can be downloaded from ‘Google Play’.

1. Download the Microsoft Outlook-app from Google Play

2. Open the Outlook app and click on ‘Get Started’. If you already use the app, you might see fewer or different intro screens. 

 



3. Click ‘Add account’

 



4. Enter your email address and click on ‘Continue’

 

 



5. Enter your username and password. Your username must always be in the format au[auid]@uni.au.dk, e.g. au12345@uni.au.dk.

 

 



6. You must use two-step authentication here. Press ‘Approve’ on your mobile in the ‘Microsoft Authenticator’ app.

 



7. You must now accept AU’s security policy for mobile devices. Click on ‘Activate’ to continue.

 



8. Click on ‘Activate’ again.



9. Click "Skip"

 



10. Click on the arrow on the right until you get to the end.

 



11. Click on the tick at the bottom right. Setup of the profile is now complete.



12. You have now installed and configured the Outlook app, and can start using it. 

Outlook for IOS (iPhone)

AU IT recommends that you use Microsoft Outlook for your iPhone. Support is not provided for apps other than Outlook for iPhone. You will find Outlook in the app store here. Because of the requirement for two-step authentication many other email apps no longer work.

1. Download and install Microsoft Outlook from App Store

2. Open Outlook.

 

 



3. Enter your username in the email address field. You must now always use the format au[auid]@uni.au.dk, e.g. au123456@uni.au.dk. Click on ‘Add account’

 



4. You must now use two-step authentication. Click on ‘Open Authenticator’

 



5. Enter your username and password. You must always use the format au[auid]@uni.au.dk, e.g. au123456@uni.au.dk. 

Click on ‘Log på’  (login)

 

 



7. Select ‘Approve’.

 



8. Select ‘Maybe later’

 



9. Click on ‘Turn On’

10. You have now installed and configures the Outlook app.

Manual configuration on older mobiles

AU IT does not recommend that mobiles be set up using manual configuration, and no support is provided for this.

Some old mobiles do not support automatic setup (Autodiscover) of email in Office 365. In such instances Outlook must be configured manually – possibly also in combination with an app access code.

With manual configuration the mobile is set up using the following server address: outlook.office365.com

If your mobile will not accept your password with manual configuration, then you must use an app password instead of your normal password. Find out more here.
