SAS

Description

SAS 9.3 is a popular statistical program, which makes it possible to make advanced tests and analyses. There are different modules in the program, which makes it possible for the user to choose a module that suits the given problem. For instance SAS STAT can be mentioned as one of these modules, which contains different built-in statistical functions. Furthermore SAS IML is another module, which makes it possible to design an analysis mathematically. SAS makes it possible through matrixes to calculate statistical tests and other values that are required to solve the given problem. Practically everything is possible using SAS. To use SAS 9.3 it has to be mentioned, that it is a difficult program to learn to use, since most of the contents have to be coded from scratch. If a simpler tool is needed SAS EG can be recommended, since it builds on the same principle as SAS STAT and IML and contains a lot of built-in functions and therefore is more user-friendly.

Courses

Analytics Group does not conduct courses for this program at the given time, but upon request a course can be arranged. This is done by contacting analytics@au.dk with the requested content for the course and requested duration, after which a course structure will be suggested that are consistent with the given requests.

Course material

Below the course material from current and previous courses is listed:

SAS/STAT

This material is for the statistical course in SAS. The target of the course is to teach how to make simple statistics, confidence intervals and how to make tests of hypotheses on different samples. Furthermore it will be shown how to make an ANOVA test in SAS and perform a complete regression analysis. Finally the course will teach how to improve output using ODS Graphics. The course material contains an introduction along with examples of each subject and assignments with solutions.

SAS Proc I + II

An introduction course to basic SAS procedures. Learn about the SAS 9.2 user interface, library references, production of simple and conditional output along with basic descriptive statistics. It will be taught how to sort a dataset, work with data steps, if-then-else functions and different types of loops. . The course material contains an introduction along with examples of each subject and assignments with solutions.

    SAS Programming - 8 hour

The data files for an 8 hour SAS course.

SAS Interactive Matrix Language for Applied Econometrics Methods

The course is an introduction to Interactive Matrix Language (IML) in SAS, which has been adjusted to the course Applied Econometrics Methods. The course contains an introduction to importing external datasets into matrixes in SAS. Furthermore it will be taught how to manually produce matrices in SAS and a number of different matrix functions will be demonstrated. Finally it will be shown how to make regression analysis by using IML and how to save matrixes in datasets. The course material contains an introduction along with examples of each subject and assignments with solutions.

SAS Interactive Matrix Language for Empirical Finance

The course is a further development of the course in Applied Econometrics Methods. The course will focus on loops, double loops, if-sentences, simple t-tests and production of random numbers.

    SAS Enterprise Guide

Introduction course for SAS EG with the target to give a basic understanding of the point-and-click based part of SAS EG.

    SAS Enterprise Miner

The course focuses on students taking the elective course Data Mining. The material consists of 9 chapters – from basic introduction to the program to more advanced development of data mining models, e.g. decision trees, linear regression and neural networks.)

      SAS for Business Intelligence (ITCO)

The course is directed at the students at the ITCO-study, who are taking the course Business Intelligence. The target of the course is to give an introduction to how SAS can be used in relation to Business Intelligence.

Event study for Advanced Corporate Finance

An introduction on how to perform an event study by using financial databases and SAS. The course provides a short introduction to the concept behind an event study, after which the use of how to find data using Zephyr and Datastream is demonstrated along with an example of how to work with the data in SAS. Finally an example with a small event study is shown. The course material contains an introduction along with examples of each subject and assignments with solutions.
