The Center for Child Language focuses on early language acquisition by Danish children, and is a leading academic environment for major intervention studies to measure children’s language acquisition, development and well-being. AU is already home to TrygFonden’s Centre for Child Research at Aarhus BSS, and there are already close connections between the research fields covered by the two centres.

“Moving the Center for Child Language to AU offers the potential for valuable research synergy. This applies not least to collaboration with TrygFonden’s Centre for Child Research, but also to collaboration with the pre-school area at the School of Education and the areas of the School of Communication and Culture that deal with language acquisition and language use,” says Johnny Laursen, Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

Staff at TrygFonden’s Centre for Child Research at AU also welcome the Center for Child Language with open arms:

“In recent years there has been enormous interest in local government, government ministries and volunteer organisations in the idea of taking evidence-based initiatives at an early age. So it’s definitely an advantage to gather a strong interdisciplinary team at AU with a view to focusing on this interest and developing new knowledge about how we can improve children’s opportunities in life,” says Michael Rosholm, who is a professor of economics and Director of TrygFonden’s Centre for Child Research.

Professor Dorthe Bleses and associate professor Anders Højen will be affiliated with the School of Communication and Culture at the Faculty of Arts. But their offices will be at Fuglsangs Allé 4, where TrygFonden’s Centre for Child Research is based.
