New deadline for complying with re-examination prerequisites

A lot of students and teachers are uncertain about the deadlines for complying with prerequisites for taking re-examinations. This uncertainty leads to more cancelled exams and confusion for all concerned.

As a result, Arts Studies Administration has now introduced a new deadline. The idea behind this deadline is that students should submit evidence of compliance with prerequisites for taking re-examinations at the same time as they register for these exams. This will ensure that exams can start on time, and that teachers are informed of student compliance by the due date.

The deadline takes effect starting with the summer re-examination period in 2018, and can be found on the study portal and in the student exam plans.

It is important that teachers use the deadline stated in the student exam plans in future, instead of setting their own deadlines for compliance with re-examination prerequisites.

Deadline for submitting evidence of compliance
If students need to comply with specific prerequisites for taking exams, this will be stated in the academic regulations.

If compliance with specific prerequisites is necessary for taking scheduled exams, students must send their teacher evidence of such compliance on Blackboard by a deadline defined by the teacher.

If compliance with specific prerequisites is necessary for taking re-examinations, students must send their teacher evidence of such compliance no later than the deadline for registering for the re-examination concerned. Students can find this deadline on the study portal and in their exam plan.

What do these prerequisites mean?
There are some exams which students can only take if they comply with certain prerequisites. These prerequisites are not included in the assessment process, but students have to comply with them if they want to take the exams in question.

Students must submit evidence of compliance with these prerequisites to their teacher before taking such exams. Students who fail to provide evidence of compliance are not allowed to take the exam in question, and this will be regarded as a failed attempt to pass it. This applies to both scheduled exams and re-examinations.

Here are some examples of the kind of prerequisites that might apply: students might have to submit a curriculum, a synopsis, a collection of assignments or a media product; they may have to give an oral presentation; or they may have to participate actively in the classroom.
