The most important exam rules

Group exams

When conducting exams with more than one student participating (group exams), it must be possible to make an individual assessment of each student’s performance. In connection with oral group exams, there must be enough time and the conditions must be in place to ensure that each student in the group receives an individual assessment. In connection with written group exams, is must be clearly indicated which parts of the assignment the individual students have written. This is described in more detail in the academic regulations for the degree programme in question.

Read more about the assessment of group exams in section 4 of the Examination Order.

Conducting exams

Oral exams are generally public – see exceptions in section 5 of the Examination Order.

It is not allowed for students, examiners or co-examiners to record sound or images during an exam, unless the recordings form part of the exam process.

Exam language

On degree programmes offered in Danish, the exam language is Danish, but exams can also be conducted in Norwegian or Swedish. On degree programmes offered in English or another foreign language, exams are conducted in the language of instruction. Different rules apply if part of the purpose of the exam is to document special language skills. This applies to both Danish and foreign languages.

Read more about language and exams in section 6 of the Examination Order.

Commencement of studies exam

All Bachelor’s degree programmes at the Faculty of Arts contain a commencement of studies exam. The exam takes place in September on the first semester. The purpose of the commencement of studies exam is to ensure that new students who are not actively enrolled are withdrawn from the degree programme. You can read about the commencement of studies exam in the academic regulations for the degree programme.

First-year exam

The first-year exam consists of a group exam in the first year of the Bachelor’s degree programme. The first-year exam is equivalent to 45 ECTS and must be passed by the end of the first academic year. Students who do not meet this requirement will be withdrawn.

Errors in connection with exams

If you as a teacher or an examiner notice an error in connection with an exam which you are assessing, you must contact your teaching/exam team immediately to make them aware of the error.

Depending on the nature of the error, the exam may be cancelled, and the students will be offered an extraordinary re-examination. This assessment is made by the Studies Administration at the Faculty of Arts.
