Aarhus BSS launches new evacuation app
Aarhus BSS has just launched the evacuation app AU Evacuate, which sends out emergency alerts in critical situations via mobile phone and email. The app is currently in the test phase and initially only covers Campus Fuglesangs Allé. All employees, students and visitors at Fuglesangs Alle are encouraged to download the app.
The new evacuation app AU Evacuate is a supplement to AU’s existing emergency response concept. The app will be used to send out emergency alerts in critical situations where either specific buildings need to be evacuated, or where a message must reach everyone in a specific area as fast as possible. The app is currently in its test phase and initially only Campus Fuglesangs Allé where it will also be used for evacuation drills. The idea is that the app will later be launched across the rest of Aarhus BSS.
Why an evacuation app?
Aarhus BSS does not have a tone- or speech warning system. This makes it difficult to reach a lot of people simultaneously in critical situations. For this reason, the purpose of the app has been to develop a more effective warning system, says Mette Grønborg Køcks from Aarhus BSS Building Services, who has been part of the entire development process:
“AU Evacuate allows us to send joint messages to employees, students and guests in critical situations. An app is an excellent solution as most people always have their phone on them. This means that we can reach a lot of people in a very short time.”
What should you do?
Initially, AU Evacuate only covers Campus Fuglesangs Allé. All employees, students and guests at Fuglesangs Allé are thus encouraged to download the app from App Store or Google Play (Android). If you don’t have a smartphone, or if you have a Windows-based smartphone, you can choose to receive the alerts on text and/or email. You can sign up for this service here.
