MatchPoints: A broad range of voices to debate digitalisation and democracy

MatchPoints 2021 will offer a multifaceted debate on digitalisation and democracy. A number of researchers from Aarhus BSS are attending, alongside debaters such as political scientist Francis Fukuyama, Microsoft CEO Marianne Dahl and minister for finance Nicolai Wammen.

The annual MatchPoints conference at Aarhus University will take place 27-29 May and bring the relationship between digitalisation and democracy up for discussion. Numerous researchers and other professionals will pay a visit to the conference, including a number of researchers from Aarhus BSS.

Through more than twenty panel debates, the guests will discuss how the internet affects our society:

  • Are social media destroying democracy?
  • What does digital discrimination mean?
  • How do you strengthen and develop digital leadership?

Other topics range from the climate crisis and business development to education and youth culture.

Prestigious debaters

The conference will feature a number of prestigious guests, and the speakers include political scientist Francis Fukuyama, Microsoft CEO Marianne Dahl, Danish minister for finance Nicolai Wammen, award-winning journalist Anne Applebaum and Alexandra Evans, Head of Child Safety Public Policy at TikTok.

From Aarhus BSS, the list of debaters counts names such as professor Thomas Olesen, professor Lotte Bøgh, professor Lene Aarøe, professor Kasper Lippert-Rasmussen and professor Michael Bang Petersen. Along with a great number of other attendees from the faculty, the university and the rest of society, they will deal with the main topic of the conference: ‘Democracy and Culture in the Digital Age’.
