Arne Kjær named director of new centre at Arts

Arne Kjær has been appointed director of the Centre for Teaching Development and Digital Media at Arts. The centre will unify existing smaller centres and research programmes with a focus on the practice and theory of education at university and secondary school level. It is expected that its location close to IT City Katrinebjerg will foster new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Dr Kjaer has a long relationship with the IT-related programmes at Katrinebjerg. He holds an MA in computer science and was instrumental in the establishment of the information studies degree programme in the early 1980s, and has since then served as director of studies and chairman of the board of studies for the programme several times.

In the course of his research career, Dr Kjær has worked with a wide range of issues; most recently, he has focused on the intersection of IT and learning. In 2010, he was appointed director of the Centre for Teaching Development, a position which he held while also serving as vice-dean for education at the former Faculty of Humanities.
