Niels Henrik Buus conducts research into clinical hypertension, better known as high blood pressure. With his new professorship, he has established a research group which studies different aspects of blood pressure issues. One particular focal point for the group is patients where medication does not have a sufficient effect, and patients who have elevated blood pressure as a consequence of chronic kidney disease.

The research aims to uncover the mechanisms that determine the elevated blood pressure, and to examine how medical doctors can best target treatment. At the same time, Niels Henrik Buus will make it easier to identify the patients who are difficult to treat. Difficulties in treating hypertension are particularly often associated with impaired renal function and diabetes.

Niels Henrik Buus’ professorship is co-financed by the Health Science Research Foundation, Central Denmark Region.
