Strategy 2013-2020 now published in English

The translation of Aarhus University's Strategy 2013-2020 is complete, and an English version is now available.

AIAS seeks new fellows

Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) is now accepting new fellowship applications from external researchers and researchers from Aarhus University.

AIAS brings together top researchers within all disciplines from Denmark and abroad, offering fellowships in four different categories.

Aarhus University employees can apply for the Jens Christian Skou Junior Fellowships and Jens Christian Skou Senior Fellowships, while Dale T. Mortensen Junior Fellowships and Dale T. Mortensen Senior Fellowships are for researchers from other universities wanting to work at Aarhus University.

Fellowships can be applied for on the basis of a research project, starting in 2014.

The Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies has been made possible thanks to a donation from the Aarhus University Research Foundation. The institute is officially opening on 13 June 2013, and has already recruited the first group of fellows.

The deadline for this round of applications is 7 June 2013.

12,344 quota 2 applicants

This year, Aarhus University received 12,344 applications for quota 2 places. This is a slight increase compared to 2012, which set a record with 12,307 applicants.

At the same time, 4,291 applicants – 4% more than last year – have chosen Aarhus University as their first priority.

An overview of the number of applicants for the respective study programmes is expected to be ready before long.

In total, optagelse.dk has registered 49,137 applicants for Danish higher education programmes.

MatchPoints opens doors to international experts

This year's MatchPoints seminar includes two public events. The first is being held on the seminar's opening day with Harvard professor Robert D. Putnam, who is currently distinguished visiting professor at Aarhus University. Robert D. Putnam has made a name for himself for his ground-breaking research into social capital.

The following evening, CNN host and political commentator Fareed Zakaria will talk on 'Culture and politics in the new economies: Does it matter to us?' His talk is followed by a panel debate with contributions from, among others, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Uffe Ellemann-Jensen. The debate will be chaired by the journalist Poul Erik Skammelsen.

Both events are open to the public, but it is necessary to register. An entrance fee will be charged for the talk by Fareed Zakaria.

Robert D. Putnam's research into social capital, defined as the resources represented by citizens' relationships of trust with one another and public institutions, is a key theme at MatchPoints 2013.

The MatchPoints conference is held on 23-25 May.

Many U-days visitors

Earlier in the month, more than 5,600 potential applicants visited Aarhus University to attend a number of special events for future students.

The study programmes in Aarhus, Herning and Emdrup opened their doors to potential students, and a survey shows that the talks and presentations helped clarify the choice of programme for 82% of them.
