Europe's biggest conference seeks exciting research

Europe's biggest science conference, Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF), is coming to Denmark in 2014. The organisers are on the look-out for researchers who would like to present their work at the conference, which is expected to attract up to 4,500 researchers, students, business leaders, journalists, politicians and other stakeholders.

ESOF is a biennial event, and the title of the 2014 conference is 'Science Building Bridges'. A call for proposals within eight themes has been published; these include 'Learning in the 21st Century', 'Global resource management' and 'Material and Virtual World'.

The deadline for applications is Ascension Day, 9 May 2013.

Places still available for symposium on responsible research

Health invites AU employees to a symposium on responsible research practice where values such as credibility and integrity will be central themes. A number of international experts will discuss the German ombudsman system and about how to develop research environments and PhD programmes that promote research integrity.

The symposium takes place on Wednesday 17 April at 10.30-17.00 in the Main Hall. Admission is free for Aarhus University staff, and registration deadline is today.

Danish success with European research funding

A recent report from the Danish Ministry of Research, Innovation and Higher Education shows that Denmark is superceded by Switzerland and Finland only in terms of the EU funding received per capita.

Danish research and innovation environments have received a total of DKK 5.8 billion – almost DKK 80 million per month – since the EU's 7th framework programme for research, kown as FP7, was launched. Almost DKK 1 billion has come from the European Research Council (ERC), making it the biggest source of income for Denmark among the FP7 sub-programmes.

A total of 27 Aarhus University researchers have received ERC grants in one of the five categories (starting grants, advanced grants, consolidator grants, synergy grants and proof of concept).
