News from the Senior Management Team no. 35/2013

Join Empower Talent!

Aarhus University is now offering a university-wide mentor programme for academic staff members – Empower Talent!, and the first mentorships are taking shape.

The first registrations have been received from young researchers who would like to have a mentor and from experienced researchers who would like to act as mentors. The mentor-mentee pairs will be matched across the organisation to give those involved the chance to gain an insight into different approaches to research and career planning. Mentor-mentee pairs can also register themselves.

The deadline for registration is 15 November for this first round of mentorships.

Initially, the senior management team has allocated funding for three years to the programme.

New internet festival in Aarhus in May 2014

Aarhus University and its partners in Smart Aarhus are now launching a completely new initiative: Internet Week Denmark.

Internet Week Denmark is a five-day festival, which will be held for the first time in May 2014. Focusing on digital culture and economics, the purpose of the festival is to create a display window and a meeting place for the many players and activities that are involved in creating tomorrow's digitally connected society, both culturally and economically.

The event will be co-hosted by all the Smart Aarhus partners: the Municipality of Aarhus, Aarhus University, Central Denmark Region, VIA University College, the Alexandra Institute, the Danish Technological Institute and Systematic. A similar events is also held at a European level – Internet Week Europe – and at a global level – Internet Week World.

At Aarhus University, the work involved in organising Internet Week Denmark is being coordinated by AU Smart Cities, a common platform for all four main academic areas, as well as AU Research and Talent.

On 13 November from 11.00 to 13.30, AU Smart Cities will host a brief inspirational seminar for those interested at AU. Here you can, for example, learn more about Internet Week Denmark and Smart Aarhus.

Barriers to attracting new talent

Last week, the Danish daily Berlingske published a feature article by the chairman of the internationalisation group under Universities Denmark, Deputy Director Kristian Thorn, Aarhus University, and Tine Horwitz, Resp. CEO for Consortium for Global Talent. The feature article highlights the need for eliminating a number of administrative barriers to make Denmark a more attractive destination for talented foreigners.
