Status on admissions and second-round intake

Of the approximately 7,400 applicants who were offered a admission to Aarhus University on 30 July, 92 per cent have accepted. This is slightly higher than last year – especially on the engineering degree programmes.

Right now, the second round of admissions is being processed, and at the time of writing there are 16 degree programmes which still have vacant places, of which six start in the winter. The degree programmes which have seen a particularly high level of interest in the second round are the science degree programmes and the business degree programmes.

The final admission figures will not be known until October, as both the second-round intake and the distribution of standby places still need to be finalised.  In addition, commencement of studies tests must be held, and this year they are scheduled for most degree programmes. These are non-academic tests which take place in September with the aim of quickly eliminating non-active students. Those students who do not show up for and complete the exam will be automatically disenrolled as at 30 September.

Up until commencement of studies, applications for the remaining available study places will be processed as and when they are received.


Improved international ranking

Aarhus University is now ranked number 65 on the so-called Shanghai ranking of the best universities in the world – an improvement of eight places on last year’s ranking. The major reasons for the improvement are that the university’s researchers have published more papers, and that more of them are among the most cited researchers in the world. Over the past decade, Aarhus University has climbed the ranking steadily, and has been in the top 100 since 2008.


New portal strengthens cooperation with upper secondary schools

AU has just launched a new upper secondary school portal which brings together all the university’s services and activities for the upper secondary school sector in one place.

With an overview and easy access to inspiration, academic offers and relevant information, the goal is to strengthen cooperation with upper secondary schools and contribute positively to the joint cycle of graduates and knowledge.

The individual faculties, departments and schools are responsible for publishing and maintaining information on the portal, which has been developed by AU’s upper secondary steering committee and an advisory group with representatives from all four faculties and the central administration. The work has been anchored in a collaboration between AU IT, AU Research Support and External Relations and AU Student Administration and Services.


Aarhus University at Aarhus Festival

Aarhus University is participating once again this year in Aarhus Festival. Among other things, the research vessel Aurora will be inviting the general public to participate in various events, including ‘Ask Aarhus University’, where six AU researchers will make themselves available to answer questions about all sorts of things in an informal setting. This will take place on 31 August, and everyone is welcome to submit questions on a questions page between now and 24 August. 

Aarhus University can also be found at the Food Festival at Tangkrogen where, true to tradition, AU researchers will help serve up new knowledge and educational taste experiences to visitors. This is taking place on 2–4 September.


Annual celebration – registration deadline 19 August

All employees and a guest are invited to attend the annual celebration ceremony in the Main Hall in the afternoon and also at the evening event at Concert Hall Aarhus.

The registration deadline is Friday 19 August. The allocation of seats in the Main Hall in the afternoon and in the main auditorium at Concert Hall Aarhus in the evening will be decided by a ticket lottery conducted by KongresKompagniet.

Everyone who has registered will be informed of the results of the draw during the week beginning 29 August (week 35). Seats for both events will be allocated according to the number of employees at the four faculties and in the administration, so everyone has an equal chance of a getting a ticket.
