Chairman of the AU Board to step down

After eight years as a member of the AU Board, six of them as chairman, Michael Christiansen is now stepping down. Michael Christiansen would like to thank the university’s staff and students for their cooperation and efforts that leave him feeling grateful and proud in equal measure.

Professor Lars Bo Nielsen is new dean at Health

On 1 April, Professor Lars Bo Nielsen, DMSc, is taking up the position of dean at Health at Aarhus University.  He comes from a position as head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Health at the University of Copenhagen, and brings with him extensive management experience as well as having a solid research career under his belt.


Positive tone of voice for a better work environment in 2017

In 2017, the Main Occupational Health and Safety Committee (HAMU) and the Main Liaison Committee (HSU) are focusing on tone of voice and the way in which we communicate. The theme is inspired by the psychological WPA which was conducted in spring 2016. The chairs of the Main Occupational Health and Safety Committee and the Main Liaison Committee will soon present their ideas on how we can work with the way in which we communicate across the university, and Rector Brian Bech Nielsen is urging the faculties and the administration’s occupational health and safety committee to support these initiatives.


DKK 17.5 million awarded to two research talents

Today, 23 January, two postdocs from AU are receiving a total of DKK 17.5 million from the Villum Foundation’s Young Investigator Programme for researchers below 40 years of age working within the technical and natural sciences.

Søren Ulstrup, postdoc at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, is receiving DKK 10 million for a project which seeks to create a better understanding of the quantum mechanical properties that dictate the functionalism of nanoelectronics.

Also, Vivi Kathrine Pedersen, a postdoc at the Department of Geoscience, is receiving DKK 7.5 million for a project which will make it possible to simulate the development of the Scandinavian ice cap and quantify the interactions between changes in the Earth’s crust, the dynamics of the ice cap and sea levels.


Conference help available

VisitAarhus and AU’s Events and Communication Support department have strengthened their collaboration and are making even more support available for researchers wanting to organise conferences – from the ideas stage until the actual holding of the conference.
