Election groups and periods

At a university election, candidates can be elected for:

  • AU Board
  • Academic councils (one for each faculty)
  • PhD committees (one for each of the faculties at which PhD students are enrolled)
  • Boards of studies (up to several for the faculties that offer degree programmes)

There are five groups of voters for a university election:

  • Election group I: Academic staff, including salaried PhD students (VIP)
  • Election group II: Part-time academic staff (D-VIP)
  • Election group III: Technical and administrative staff (TAP)
  • Election group IV: Students, including non-salaried PhD students (STUD)
  • Election Group V: Part-time students, e.g. Master students (D-STUD)

 Professors and clinical associate professors of medicine and odontology are considered part of election group I (VIP) even though they should be placed in election group II (D-VIP) in light of their working hours.

Election periods – how long are you elected for?

Students are up for election every year. VIP and TAP are up for election at regular intervals. See the details here:

 Members of the AU Board:

  • Academic staff (VIP): 4 years
  • Technical and administrative staff (TAP): 4 years
  • Students (STUD): The period is two years, but there is an election each year for one of the two students.

 Members of academic councils:

  • Academic staff (VIP): 4 years
  • Employed PhD students: 2 years
  • Students (STUD): 1 year
  • Technical and administrative staff (TAP): 4 years (as observer)     

 Members of PhD committees:

  • Academic staff (VIP): 3 years
  • PhD students: 1 year

 Boards of studies:

  • Academic staff (VIP and possibly D-VIP): 3 years
  • Students (STUD and possibly D-STUD): 1 year

The following election groups vote for the following bodies:

  • The Board: VIP, TAP, STUD
  • Academic councils: VIP, STUD
  • PhD committees: VIP, all PhD students
  • Boards of studies: VIP, STUD – although D-VIP and D-STUD may be given voting rights
