Professor John Kopchick

Professor John Kopchick, Department of Biomedical Sciences ved Ohio University er udnævnt til æresdoktor på Aarhus Universitet. Han er en af verdens førende forskere inden for væksthormon og dertil knyttede vækstfaktorer, og han har arbejdet tæt sammen med forskere fra Aarhus Universitet. Det har indtil videre ført til ni fælles publikationer og tre patenter, foruden udveksling af forskere laboratorierne imellem.

Tilbage i 1989 var John Kopchick den første til at udvikle og karakterisere en specifik antagonist, som nu er et licenseret lægemiddel til behandling af den sjældne sygdom akromegali (kæmpevækst). Siden da har professorens forskning udviklet sig, og det har ført til et fokus på væksthormon i forhold til aldring.

John Kopchick har udgivet 292 peer reviewed artikler, herunder i anerkendte tidsskrifter som PNAS og Journal of Clinical Investigation. Hans H-indeks er 55, og han er indehaver af 35 patenter. Professoren blev i 2012 udnævnt til distinguished professor ved Ohio University, og han er desuden tidligere præsident for ”Growth Hormone Research Society”, som med over 400 medlemmer fra mere end 30 lande er et internationalt organ bestående af klinikere, forskere, undervisere og studerende. Selskabet blev oprindeligt stiftet af forskere fra Aarhus Universitet.

John Kopchick er uddannet ved Indiana University of Pennsylvania og University of Texas Cancer Center, M.D. Anderson Hospital og the Tumor Institute i Houston. I årene 2004 til 2012 har han besøgt Danmark til 14 postgradute kurser, som har været arrangeret i samarbejde med Health på Aarhus Universitet.
