A new online course can help you become an even better teacher
A new flexible online course in teaching and learning is now available to all teaching staff at Aarhus University. The first course starts on 3 May.
Introduction to Teaching and Learning (InTeL) is a new flexible online course which provides a general introduction to teaching and learning to teaching staff which is relevant to all levels, fields and forms of teaching. And even though the system is primarily intended to support academic staff who are new to teaching, more experienced teachers can also find inspiration for the continued development of their teaching practice.
The course familiarises participants with central concepts and methods for improving quality, such as alignment, active learning, learning objectives, educational IT, exams and evaluation. The course also provides opportunities to explore themes such as lectures, classroom and lab teaching as well as clinical instruction.
The course takes a week, and participants should expect to spend seven to eight hours on it. The course is accessed online in Blackboard and consists of a blend of text, videos and exercises, and is supported by an e-moderator who provides feedback and moderates discussion forums. During the course, participants also work on developing their own teaching plans.
InTeL was developed through a collaboration between the university’s four teaching development centres, which received a grant of DKK 400,000 from the Education Committee. The objective of the course is to contribute to providing a shared foundation for teaching and learning at AU, just as the teacher training programme for assistant professors has been doing for many years. A pilot test of InTeL was performed in November 2016, and UPnet, a collaboration between the four teaching development centres, is responsible for offering and developing the course
The course takes place in English, and enrolment is limited. Spots on the course will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for registration for the first course, which starts on 3 May, is 18 April.
