About Brightspace

Brightspace is a so-called learning management system (LMS) from the Canadian company D2L (formerly Desire2Learn).

A LMS is a term for platforms for developing, distributing, holding, and administering teaching materials and activities via the Internet.

Brightspace replaces Blackboard after the system has been through the statutory tendering procedure. Brightspace is a good match with the requirements set by AU. This applies in particular to the platform's pedagogical-didactic qualities, functionalities, and user-friendliness.

Need to know

  • The content from the Blackboard courses from the autumn semester 2020 and the spring semester 2021 will automatically be moved to Brightspace. The spring semester courses will be transferred in September.
  • You must start building your courses as soon as they are available. The content transfer from Blackboard is not a plug and play solution.
  • Old courses will be archived during the autumn of 2021. After that, Blackboard will close down at the end of October 2021.
