Aarhus Municipality is introducing new parking rules in the University Park

New parking rules will soon come into force in the University Park. There will still be spaces reserved for AU staff, but students will only be able to park free of charge for two hours at a time.

At the beginning of 2023, Aarhus Municipality will introduce new rules for paid parking in the University park – on Bartholins Allé and Wilhelm Meyers Allé. This means that the public parking spaces in the University Park will only be free of charge for two hours instead of the current four hours. In addition, people will also have to register their parking in a parking app or at the payment station – even if they are only staying for a short time.

Aarhus University will continue to have a number of its own parking spaces but not enough to meet the parking needs of employees, students and guests. In the future, AU parking spaces in the University Park will therefore be reserved for AU employees, so it is students and guests who will be hit most by the new rules.

AU encourages all its employees to use the spaces reserved for AU staff rather than the public spaces, so that students have a better chance of finding a public space. In addition, it also urges all employees to consider using the AU carpooling scheme or, if they are able, to use public transport or cycle.

The new parking rules were originally approved by the City Council in 2018. It is still not clear exactly when they will come into force, but the municipality has confirmed it will be ‘early 2023’.
