Honorary award for visionary Director of Studies at Health
Associate Professor, PhD, Anne Mette Mørcke has recently spearheaded a major reform of the MSc programme in medicine. She is now being honoured for her dedicated efforts as Director of Studies at Health with the Aarhus University Anniversary Foundation’s Honorary Award in Education.
Objective of medical studies – what, how and why? This was the wording of the first part of the title of Anne Mette Mørcke’s PhD thesis, which she defended in December 2003. Since then, she has been working on striking the right balance between the study programme and the professional life:
- Anne Mette Mørcke has always been an advocate of a close relationship between medical theory and practice. Her focus on the health system’s demand for communication and collaboration skills in doctors as well as an understanding of the need for good and coherent courses of treatment for patients is also a cornerstone of the new track of the MSc programme in medicine, says Berit Eika, Vice-Dean for Studies at Health.
Anne Mette Mørcke’s research in the methodology of the study programme in medicine has today been published both in Denmark and internationally, and, during her career, she has taught the subject to both students and lecturers.
Innovative reform of MSc programme
Anne Mette Mørcke became an assistant professor in 2004 and later an associate professor at the Unit of Medical Education, Aarhus University. In February 2010, she took over as Director of Studies at Health at Aarhus University. She has put a lot of effort into developing a new curriculum for the MSc programme, taking an innovative approach which receives much praise from dean Allan Flyvbjerg:
- Anne Mette Mørcke has had the courage to think outside the box, while at the same time focusing on the existing qualities of the programme. The reform has been a very comprehensive project, and she has been absolutely fantastic at involving students as well as lecturers and administrative staff and, not least, the employers. It is very much thanks to her that future medical graduates will be even better prepared for their role as doctors, says Allan Flyvbjerg, Dean at Health.
The award ceremony will take place in connection with the Annual Celebration 2011.
