ArcMap will be phased out March 2024 as part of the educational license & license changes
Already in March 2024, ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) will no longer be available for us through the educational license. Additionally, ArcGIS Pro 'concurrent use' and 'single use' licenses will also be removed from the Esri Education Program.
We have received the unexpected news about changes in the educational license already in March 2024:
• ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) will no longer be available for us through the educational license.
• ArcGIS Pro 'concurrent use' and 'single use' licenses will also be removed from the Esri Education Program. Henceforth, ArcGIS Pro licenses will only be provided as 'named users,' licensed through ArcGIS Online or Enterprise/Portal.
Outphasing ArcMap: Transition to ArcGIS Pro
We recommend to start with the transition now, so you have still the chance to check back in ArcMap if ArcGIS Pro delivers the exact same results. From my own experience, I can say that it is not that bad, if you simply work with maps and layouts, you can import them in most cases without error into ArcGIS Pro. For python coding, you will have to transition to 3.x.
• We have free access to all Esri online courses. If you do not have already, get an account to access all material. Use https://support.au.dk/CherwellPortal/IT/One-Step/RequestGIS to request ArcGIS independent study account. ESRI training:https://www.esri.com/training/
• Contact your local GIS Committee representative if you need help. Geoinfo is providing classes, but we might be able to hold short transition courses locally
• If you cannot manage to migrate, also contact the GIS committee, but consider that ArcMap will be completely phased out in 2026. So in 2 years, you will have to transition anyways.
Licensing for Offline use
• The GIS committee will test and provide a description how to work offline in future
