Quota 2 admissions: Applications to AU still at a high level
7,927 applicants chose Aarhus University as their first priority in this year's quota 2 admissions round. Pro-rector Berit Eika is particularly pleased about the steady increase in applications to the university's IT programmes.
The national deadline for quota 2 applications was Sunday, and the application statistics have been released: 8,000 quota 2 applicants put a degree from Aarhus University at the top of their wish list.
That’s pretty much status quo in relation to the record-breaking results from last year, and an increase of 36 per cent over 2022.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences saw a solid increase in applications to programmes such as chemistry, physics, computer science and nanoscience. The three IT degree programmes taught in English that were launched last year were also highly popular again this year, with 480 first-choice applications, an increase of 3 per cent over last year.
“We have just launched a significant investment in IT subjects, particularly with a focus on cybersecurity, and I’m pleased that there is a lot of interest among the applicants. There’s a considerable shortage of IT specialists, and this shortage is projected to increase in the future. So an intensive effort is needed, and we have to help deliver the solution,” Pro-rector Eika says.
Applications have stabilised at a high level – and welcome to Gødstrup
Applications to the university's other faculties appear to have stabilised after a number of years of strong growth. For example, although the Faculty of Technical Sciences is down 4% compared to last year, this is a minor dip following an increase of more than 70 per cent since 2022.
This year, the Faculty of Health started taking applications for a Bachelor's degree in medicine which offers students the option of taking their MSc in Gødstrup outside Herning. 105 applicants selected this option as their first priority.
The application statistics were calculated immediately after the application deadline and may require minor adjustments. But Pro-rector Berit Eika is delighted by the big picture: that so many applicants put AU at the top of their list this year:
“Quota 2 is an important part of our education system because it gives motivated, qualified applicants whose grades don’t qualify them for quota 1 admission a second chance. While there’s room for improvement and increased efficiency in this part of the application system, I’m glad that many young people make use of it when applying to university.”
