Quota 2: Increase in applications to Aarhus University

6,416 applicants selected a degree programme at Aarhus University as their first choice in this year’s quota 2 application round. This is a ten per cent increase over 2022.

The deadline for applying for a degree programme in the quota 2 application round was March 15 at noon. This year, 6,416 selected a degree programme at Aarhus University as their first choice. This represents an increase of ten per cent over 2022. Aarhus University received a total of 17,353 quota 2 applications, according to a preliminary count.

Nationwide, the total number of applicants to higher-education degree programmes increased by six per cent (see the press release from the Ministry of Higher Education and Science).

At Aarhus University, the largest increases were seen at the faculties offering degree programmes within engineering, social sciences and health sciences. Applications to programmes within the humanities, education and theology also increased slightly, while applications to natural sciences programmes remained steady.

The figures for the total number of quota 2 applications and the break-down by degree programme will be available early next week on AU’s press website.

Figures for total applications to Aarhus University will not be available until after the deadline for the quota 1 application round, which is noon of 5 July. All applicants will find out whether they have been admitted on 28 July.

Development in quota 2 applications at Aarhus University:

  • 2023: 17,353 applications – 6,416 first priority (preliminary figure)*
  • 2022: 16,671 applications - 5.938 first priority (final figure)
  • 2021: 18,046 applications – 6,130 first priority (final figure)
  • 2020: 15,732 applications – 5,852 first priority (final figure)
  • 2019: 14,943 applications – 5,536 first priority (final figure)
  • 2018: 14,866 applications - 5.599 first priority (final figure)

* Please note that the 10 per cent increase is based on a comparison between the preliminary figures from 2022 and 2023 respectively. In 2022, the number of applicants was 5,776 when the preliminary count was made, while the final figure  was  5,938. The final figure for 2023 will be available at the beginning of next week.
