New vice-dean at Science and Technology, Aarhus University
New vice-dean for research at Science and Technology, Aarhus University, will be Henrik Bindslev, who until now has occupied the position as vice-dean at DTU. He begins his new job on May 15.
Henrik Bindslev has been appointed vice-dean for research at Science and Technology as of 15 May 2011. He comes from a position as vice-dean at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where he has also been director of Risø DTU, the National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy. In addition, he is chair of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA).
Henrik Bindslev has considerable experience in research management, both in Denmark and internationally. In his most recent position as director of DTU Risø, he was the most senior executive manager for 700 members of staff for a number of years, with responsibility for an institution with a turnover of almost DKK 700 million (approximately EUR 94 million). As the person responsible for research visions and strategy at Risø DTU – which carries out research into wind energy, bioenergy and solar energy, as well as fuel cells – he became extremely familiar with research policy in Denmark and the EU. During the period spent at Risø DTU, he also gained experience in change management and organisational structure changes, when the former Risø National Laboratory became part of DTU in 2007 and was named Risø DTU. He is therefore well qualified as vice-dean to face the challenges of the new organisation at Aarhus University.
As a member of different councils and committees in Denmark and abroad, Henrik Bindslev has an extensive network in the areas of energy and research. He is an experienced speaker and debater, and is used to communicating in the media. He is also a shrewd negotiator as regards both industry and public authorities.
Henrik Bindslev was educated at DTU and subsequently completed a DPhil in Plasma Physics at the University of Oxford, UK. Following that, he worked as a fusion researcher at facilities including the Joint European Torus (JET) fusion reactor in Oxford, UK, and since 2001, at DTU Risø, where he was head of research until 2007. He was appointed director of Risø DTU in 2007, a position he left in 2011 to become vice-dean at DTU.
In June 2010, Henrik Bindslev was appointed chair of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), which was established by ten leading European laboratories.
