Nine AU researchers among the 50 most cited experts in Denmark in 2024
The climate, war and nitrogen. These were some of the major issues that shaped national and international agendas in 2024, and this was reflected in the media's use of expert commentators. Nine of the most sought-after experts are from Aarhus University, according to a survey.
Five top researchers from Aarhus University have been listed among the 20 most cited researchers in Danish media in 2024.
This is according to Akademikerbladet's list of the 50 most cited experts in the media in Denmark.
Professor of Economics Michael Svarer ranks as the second most cited expert, with as many as 939 citations in 2024. Professor of Marine Environment Stiig Markager is the second most cited with 597 citations, followed by Professor of Agroecology Jørgen E. Olesen, Professor of Fauna Ecology Peter Sunde and Professor of Political Science Rune Stubager. The only female AU researcher is Professor Emerita of Environmental Law Ellen Margrethe Basse, who ranks as number 43 on the list.
For Rector Brian Bech Nielsen, the many media appearances stress the sense of responsibility among researchers to share their knowledge with society and take part in the public debate. This not only applies to those included in Akademikerbladet's list, but to all researchers at AU who participate in journalistic productions.
"Many of our researchers spend many hours outside of research and teaching talking to journalists. Getting up early to join P1 Morgen may not always be the most convenient scenario, yet researchers make the effort time and time again. By talking to the media, they contribute credibility and quality to the news and public debate. They deserve our deepest respect and thanks for stepping up," says Brian Bech Nielsen.
This is the fifth year that Akademikerbladet has compiled its list of the 50 most quoted experts in Danish media.
Topping the list with 1,220 citations in 2024 is Associate Professor Peter Viggo Jakobsen from the Royal Danish Defence College.
The survey was conducted by Infomedia and is based on a search of Danish news media content, including articles, radio and TV. Read about the methodology here.
