Rules for parking in the University City are about to change
Do you park in the University City? Then from 22 June 2026, you’ll need a new parking permit. Read on to find out what you need to know about the new rules, where you can park and what you need to do.
From 22 June, staff who park in the University City will need a separate parking permit. In other words, you will no longer able to park in the University City with the staff parking permit you already have: you need a permit specifically for the University City.
The new permit is available free of charge to all AU staff. With this permit, you can park free of charge in the parking bays reserved for AU staff in the University Park’s two car parks. AU shares the University Park car parks with other tenants (for example Partnerhuset).
Your license plate will be scanned and registered at the entrance to both car parks. It’s important to note that the two car parks are organised differently in terms of how many bays are reserved for AU staff and how they are marked.
The underground car park at Peter Sabroes Gade 37 (entrance via the ramp by building 1840)
- In this car park, AU staff with permits can park in the AU bays, which are marked in blue and located at the back of the garage.
- There are about 100 bays for AU employees in this car park.
- You’ll be able to see how many bays are available to AU staff at any given time on a digital display at the entrance to the car park.
The car park at Peter Sabroes Gade 8
- The AU bays are not marked in this car park. Instead, a certain number of parking bays has been allocated to AU staff. So if you have an AU University Park permit, you can park in any available bay free of charge, as long as AU’s quota of parking bays has not been filled. You’ll be able to see how many AU bays are available on a digital display at the entrance to the car park.
- There are about 200 bays for AU employees in this car park.
Please note: You cannot park free of charge with a University Park permit in either of these car parks if all AU bays are occupied – even if there are empty bays. If all of the bays allocated to AU are full, you have the option of parking at any of the other staff car parks at AU locations in Aarhus, as long as you have a general AU permit. There is also public parking on Peter Sabroes Gade.

Why do we need two separate AU parking permits in Aarhus?
FEAS owns the buildings in the University City, and has entered into an agreement on parking with a different company than the one that administers parking at all other AU locations in Aarhus. This is why AU staff need a separate parking permit to park in the University City.
