University Director wishes you a Merry Christmas

Even though we stand firm as a university, we are not getting stuck. In troubled times like now, I'm particularly proud of the fact that we as an administration support positive forces and changes for the better.

Dear staff in the administration,

We are living in unsettled times. The climate crisis is looming, a new geopolitical reality is emerging, and democracy is being threatened in various ways. I know this isn’t the usual way to start a Christmas greeting, but I believe that many of you are concerned about the events taking place in the world at the moment – and are looking for ways to make a difference.

Fortunately, at the university, there are many positive things we can take pride in. After a financially turbulent year in 2022, Aarhus University has regained its balance and now stands in a stable financial position. This means that we’re well equipped to tackle the challenges that await us in the administration, such as implementing the Master’s reform, developing our research administration, rolling out a new studies administration system, and ensuring our cybersecurity.

Every day, I am reminded that our university has a strong administration – one that embraces its tasks, evolves, and surmounts all the challenges it faces with great skill, talent and dedication. This requires that its employees find solutions – and you do.

I am also reminded that our university creates value through its excellent degree programmes, strong relationships with society, and research breakthroughs. In 2023, Aarhus University enjoyed a record level of research activity, securing more research funding than ever before.

But, even though we are standing firm, we are not standing still. In these turbulent times, I’m particularly proud that we in the administration are facilitating positive forces and change for the better – helping researchers and students to address the many dilemmas that our current world presents. Your efforts are vital in helping to create trust and faith in the future. And for these efforts I extend my sincere appreciation.

I hope that you will now be able to savour the peaceful spirit of Christmas and enjoy a well-deserved holiday with your families and friends before we meet again for an exciting 2024.

Merry Christmas!

Kristian
