Aarhus University to welcome 7,612 new students

Student places have been allocated, and 7,612 applicants have received an offer from Aarhus University. This represents an increase of three per cent compared with last year – or 229 more students. It is also the highest intake ever at AU.

Pro-rector Berit Eika is keen to point out that around 80 per cent of these applicants had AU as their first-choice university.

“We are delighted that we can once again offer student places to so many talented and dedicated young people who want to study for a degree at Aarhus University. The vast majority of successful applicants were admitted to their first-choice degree programme, which gives them the best possible start to a fulfilling and successful student life,” says Berit Eika.

AU in Viborg is off to a good start

Three new degree programmes in Viborg can take some of the credit for the record intake. After the summer holiday, AU’s new Viborg campus will welcome 77 new students, divided between the veterinary medicine, animal science, and plant and food science programmes.

“This bodes very well for our campus in Viborg, which can become a powerhouse for educating competent graduates to work in fields that are crucial for promoting a sustainable society. I know that tutors and lecturers are dedicated to giving students the best possible start,” says Berit Eika, who emphasises that this also applies to the university’s degree programmes in Herning, Emdrup and Aarhus.

More students accepted onto sought-after degree programmes

Seen across the university as a whole, more students have been admitted to AU’s engineering programmes and to the humanities IT programmes. Numbers are also up for English-taught Bachelor’s degree programmes and for Economics and Business Administration.

“For a number of years, Aarhus University has focused on strengthening its engineering and IT programmes, and it’s very encouraging to now see this effort reflected in our highest ever intake. It’s also a cause for celebration that our English-taught Bachelor’s programmes are growing, at a time when we need to attract qualified people to our labour market,” says Berit Eika.

There are still places available on some degree programmes. Applicants who were not offered a place are encouraged to explore alternative options.
