Work out on campus: AU Motion is moving to Trøjborgvej – in two phases
AU Motion (AU’s fitness centre for staff) is moving from the Vestereng sports centre to new facilities in the heart of Aarhus Campus. From August, staff will be able to take part in fitness classes at the new location. The gym and spinning classes will move onto campus by the end of 2026.
Cardio/strength to start the day or a game of badminton to unwind after work. After the summer holidays, it will be even easier for members of staff at AU to integrate exercise into their working day, when the AU fitness centre moves from the Vestereng sports centre to the former exam halls on Trøjborgvej on Aarhus Campus.
“We look forward to becoming a more integrated part of staff’s daily life on campus, and we hope that more people will be encouraged to join as it becomes easier to fit exercise around the working day,” says Helle Nielsen, board member of AU Motion.
Fitness classes from the summer and gym sessions from the winter
The move will take place in two phases. From week 33, all of AU Motion’s fitness classes and sports hall activities will be held at the new site. This includes yoga classes, functional training and activities like badminton, floorball and futsal.
The fitness centre, including the gym and spinning classes, which will be located on the first floor, is expected to be ready by the end of 2026. In the transitional period, members of AU Motion will have access to fitness classes and sports hall activities on Trøjborgvej and to the gym and spinning classes in the Vestereng sports centre.
“We hope it’s not too inconvenient for members during the transitional period. We’re very much looking forward to having larger and better facilities once everything is in place,” says Helle Nielsen.
Fitness and sports facilities in one place on campus
AU Motion is relocating as part of AU’s vision to develop a central, coherent campus in Aarhus. It is part of AU’s Strategy 2030 to bring together fitness and sports activities for both staff and students on campus, and university director Kristian Thorn is pleased that this ambition is being realised:
“AU has one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, and we should take advantage of this. Campus should be more than simply a place to work and study – it should be a vibrant community space where we get together, interact and have the facilities to foster both our physical and intellectual development. We are now one step closer to achieving this, as AU Motion and AU Sport have the opportunity to move their activities onto campus,” he explains.
