Myths and truths about Russia (in English)

Presentation by journalist Andrey Kazankov

How fake are the Russian 'fake news'? Is Putin a dictator? Did he hack the American election? Is Russia on the way back to the USSR? And, what is going on in Russian gay clubs? These and many other questions will be answered on March 8th when journalist Andrey Kazankov comes by to talk about "Myths and truths about Russia and Putin".

Kazankov covers Russia for Denmarks leading weekly, Weekendavisen. He is based in Denmark and his native Russian city of Saint Petersburg and has reported from different regions of Russia and other Eastern European countries. He has interviewed prominent personalities such as Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen (who plays Russian president in House of Cards), Vitaliy Milonov, Russia’s most notorious anti-gay lawmaker, and Boris Nemtsov, the opposition leader who was murdered in front of the Red Square in Moscow three years ago.

Andrey Kazankov will update us on what is going on in the largest country in the world - and how it can affect all of us - as well as answer our questions about Russia.

Andrey was born in 1982 in Leningrad/Saint Petersburg and lived there until moving to Denmark in 1999. Andrey is a journalist from the University of Southern Denmark (2011) and an electronics engineer from the Business and Engineering School in Herning (2004). Andrey used to be a skilled basketball player as he played seven seasons in the first division in Denmark and won the Danish streetbasket championship in 2009. A long time ago, in 1997, he was also named the best point-guard at the Russian junior national championships.
