Submission of Dissertation

Five copies of the higher doctoral dissertation are needed for assessment: one for the relevant department, three for the assessment committee and one for the archive. Please contact Aarhus BSS HR & PhD if electronic submission is prefered.

The higher doctoral dissertation can be written in Danish or English. If the dissertation is written in a different language, the candidate is advised to contact the Aarhus BSS HR & PhD beforehand.

Together with the dissertation additional documents are needed for submission:

  1. summary
  2. author’s declaration
  3. co-author statement(s) if relevant
  4. documentation for the acquisition of a master's degree or equivalent

The summary must be in both Danish and English.

The author’s declaration is a letter stating:

  1. whether the dissertation previously has been subject to assessment with the purpose of obtaining the higher doctoral degree, either at Aarhus University or at another university
  2. whether the dissertation, or any research results included therein, previously has been used to obtain an academic degree
  3. whether the dissertation is written in collaboration with one or more researchers.

Since the doctoral degree can only be awarded on the basis of the author’s own scientific contributions, a co-author statement is needed in cases where the dissertation is the result of collaboration between more researchers. A similar statement from the candidate him- or herself is furthermore mandatory in such cases.

The above is according to the rules as described in the Ministerial order on higher doctoral degrees.

The higher doctoral dissertation must be handed in at the following address:
