New names at the Faculty of Arts

Following a series of local processes, the new names for the schools at the Faculty of Arts have now been finalised. Two schools are changing their Danish names, and all three schools are changing their names in English.

To improve the visibility and academic identity of the schools at the Faculty of Arts, the heads of these schools launched a number of local processes to follow up on the review of the faculty and suggest meaningful names for the faculty’s schools and departments.

In future the Danish term “institut” will be translated into “school” in English, and the Danish term “afdeling” will be translated into “department”. This change only applies to the Faculty of Arts.

Gradual implementation
The changes will be implemented gradually and will not take immediate effect in all our systems and on all our websites. However, the new names can already be used in e-mail signatures, for instance. And the process of changing names in PURE, on letterheads and on the websites that are used most frequently will start next week.

Degree programme committees to be called degree programme boards
The faculty’s schools have also produced proposals for a new way of organising our degree programmes, leading to further name changes. At all three schools, the current degree programme committees will be called degree programme boards in future. These degree programme boards will have a clearer framework for their work, and their role will be formalised in standard rules of procedure which will in principle apply throughout the faculty.

The review process has not resulted in any changes in the structure of the faculty’s boards of studies.
