3,500 new photos available on AU’s photo archive

As a member of staff at AU, you have access to an extensive photo archive, which has recently been updated with around 3,500 photos taken at events and locations at AU over the last two years. If you download images from elsewhere on the internet, remember that most images are subject to copyright restrictions and that you will need permission to use them.

More than 18,000 images are available for you at galleri.au.dk. Here is a small selection. Photo: AU Foto

On galleri.au.dk you can access AU’s photo archive, where you can download free images of AU’s buildings, student life and events such as the annual celebration and the Regatta, as well as a range of thematic photographs. Whether you’re a researcher or a member of administrative staff, you can use the photos to bring your reports, PowerPoints or websites to life.

The archive has recently been updated with over 3,500 new photos and now contains over 18,000 images dating from 2008 to today.

It’s been a while since the archive was last updated, because the database behind it, Cumulus, was outdated and needed replacing. Now Cumulus has been replaced by Flyr. With Flyr now in place, new images will be added to AU’s photo archive on a regular basis.

The new database has not affected the functionality of the photo archive, but you may notice small differences when you try to download images and the search function has been improved.

Next to each image you will find information about the contexts in which the image may be used and any restrictions on its use. For example, some photos may not be used for commercial purposes.

Remember copyright laws if you download photos from the internet

There are other ways to find photos, and Googling your way to them can often seem like the easy option – but, if you do this, you must watch out.

Most photos online are subject to copyright restrictions and require explicit permission to be used. If you use them without permission, you may be faced with a compensation claim from the copyright holder. AU has had to pay a number of compensation claims for images that have been used illegally.

It’s possible to find collections of royalty-free images online, but remember to read their terms and conditions carefully. For example, some of the photos in these collections may be used in non-profit contexts but not for commercial purposes.
