AU’s view of freedom of expression is in consultation

Employees and students are invited to respond to the senior management team's paper 'Freedom of expression for Aarhus University staff and students'.

The senior management team has sent the paper ‘Freedom of expression for Aarhus University staff and students’ for consultation in the academic councils, liaison committees and student forums. The aim of the paper is to formulate how the university safeguards its employees’ and students’ freedom of expression and the opportunity to engage in open and peaceful debate.

The paper is based on the recommendation from the Danish Commission on Freedom of Expression (2020), in which Danish university management teams were asked to consider how freedom of research, information and expression could be optimised to benefit Danish democracy. It is also inspired by the Chicago Principles, which a large number of American universities have endorsed.

The consultation process is described on the freedom of expression consultation page. At its meeting on 7 April 2022, the board will consider the final draft of Aarhus University's paper on freedom of expression and the results of the consultation. The document will then be published.
