C. F. Møller Architects turns 100: New tree planted in the University Park
Aarhus University is world-renowned for its architecture, which was designed by C. F. Møller. This year, C. F. Møller Architects is celebrating its 100-year anniversary, and the occasion was marked on Friday 23 August with a tree-planting ceremony in the University Park. See photos from the ceremony here.
“Young man, look at the Danish manor houses!”
This was the advice King Christian X of Denmark gave to C. F. Møller when they parted company after the inauguration of Aarhus University in 1933. The new architecture was not entirely to the king’s liking. But it would later prove to be visionary and to occupy a central place in the Danish cultural canon – and to feature on lists of the most beautiful universities in the world.
This year, C. F. Møller Architects is celebrating 100 years since its founding, and the anniversary was marked at Aarhus University on Friday 23 August with speeches, guided tours and the planting of a new oak tree in the University Park, where oak trees provide a natural aesthetic continuity in the landscape.
Aarhus University and C. F. Møller Architects have enjoyed an inspiring and impressive partnership for almost a century, said University Director Kristian Thorn, who opened the ceremony in the Main Hall:
“From the outset, our campus was viewed as a symbolic partnership between nature and culture. The architecture is closely integrated into the distinctive landscape, and the flora has literally become one with the buildings. This vision of our university has endured. It’s part of our heritage, and it’s part of everyday life on campus to this day,” said Kristian Thorn.
