More applicants to AU's international study programmes

15 March was the deadline for applications from applicants with international qualifications to AU's Master's degree programmes as well as for all applicants to AU's English-language Master's degree programmes with restricted admission.

This year, 5,610 applications were registered, up 6 per cent compared to last year’s 5,290 applications to study at AU.

1 April is the application deadline for applications to the Master's degree programmes from applicants with Danish qualifications. A complete overview of applications to Master’s degree programmes at Aarhus University will be done after this date.

Blackboard to be implemented at the entire university

During 2014 and 2015, a joint learning management system (LMS) will be implemented at Aarhus University. The system provides a digital platform for teaching and contact between teaching staff and students outside the classroom. The university has chosen a system called Blackboard. It was introduced at the School of Business and Social Sciences in autumn 2013, and is now being rolled out to the three other main academic areas.

Blackboard will replace systems such as FirstClass and CampusNet.

24 applicants for position of deputy director

Twenty-four applications had been received for the position of deputy director for AU Finance when the application deadline expired last week.

Interviews will be carried out in the coming weeks, and the name of the new deputy director will probably be announced in early May.

The position has been vacant since the former deputy director Søren Trangbæk moved to a job as financial director of the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation on 1 January 2014.

Until the new deputy director takes up his position, Head of Secretariat Anette Svejstrup and Senior Consultant Morten Vils Sørensen will, together with University Director Jørgen Jørgensen, be responsible for managing the area.

Learn about FOOD IN THE FUTURE at the Festival of Research

This year's theme for the Festival of Research at Aarhus University is FOOD IN THE FUTURE. AU's research in the area will be presented in the form of speed lectures, exhibitions, workshops and experiments with topics such as food trends, retro-farmers and culinary goddesses, seaweed as an ingredient and much more.

The Festival of Research is for everyone, and participation is free of charge. It is being held on Friday 25 April in the S Building and in the adjoining lecture halls on Fuglesangs Allé.

Aarhus University is also holding Festival of Research events in Roskilde, Foulum and Årslev.

5,315 U-days visitors

The student counsellors at AU were hosts for 5,315 prospective students when, together with the other higher educational institutions in Aarhus, the annual U-days (open house) event was held on 27 and 28 February and 1 March.

5,315 visitors is new record for U-days and is approx. 15 per cent more than last year. The many visitors could experience presentations of the study programmes, talk to student counsellors, find out more about the study environment, eat lunch in the canteens and meet graduates who talked about how they are using their qualifications.

The U-days event plays an important role in the visitors’ choice of education – in 2013, 82 per cent of the participants in the event said they were much clearer about what to study after attending U-days.
