New student representative on AU Board

On 1 February, Sarah Askholm Junge joined the AU Board as the new student representative. She was elected in November last year by the students in connection with the university elections, when the students had to select student representatives for the boards of studies, PhD committee, academic councils and the University Board.

Sarah Askholm Junge takes over from Heidi Klokker Andersen, who has been a member of the AU Board since 2013.


New chair for Academic Council at Arts 

Last week, Nina Javette Koefoed, an associate professor at the Department of Culture and Society, was elected new chair of the Academic Council at the Faculty of Arts.

She is taking over from Per Stounbjerg, who has been chairman since 2012.


New chair of Danish Council for Independent Research | Medical Sciences

Jørgen Frøkiær, a clinical professor at the Department of Nuclear Medicine and PET-Centre at AUH, has been appointed new chair of the Danish Council for Independent Research | Medical Sciences.

Jørgen Frøkiær has been a member and vice-chair of the council since 2011. 


AU opens new basic research centre for archaeology

Last week saw the opening of one of Aarhus University's three new basic research centres – UrbNet. More than 150 employees and guests attended the official opening reception at Moesgaard Museum.

UrbNet has received DKK 65 million from the Danish National Research Foundation to conduct research into new dating methods that will contribute new knowledge about the history of urbanisation. The centre is headed by Professor Rubina Raja.

The two other basic research centres, the Carbon Dioxide Activation Centre (CADIAC) and the Centre for Music in the Brain (MIB) will both open in the course of the spring.


Nine new fellows at AIAS

Last week, the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) welcomed nine new fellows.

Of the nine fellows, five are external COFUND Marie Curie fellows, while the other four are internal Jens Christian Skou fellows.

The new fellows are junior and senior researchers working at an international level, who have been selected on the basis of a peer-review process. 


New web portal for AU Alumni

A web portal and a digital newsletter have now replaced the magazine AUgustus, which was previously sent to the university's alumni.

Based on the results of a user survey among our alumni, a high priority is being given to academic feature articles combined with information about relevant events.

The newsletter will be sent out at the beginning of each month.
