Last Friday marked the 91st anniversary of Aarhus University. Thank you to all the employees, alumni, partners and students who helped make the day a true celebration. The day was full of proud tradition, with speeches and awards in the Main Hall, fantastic musical experiences in the Concert Hall and lots of sports and festivities in the University Park. This year, the annual celebration was also visited by the Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science, Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen.
This was how Rector Brian Bech Nielsen started his talk, referring to the staff and students and their excellent work for the university every day. As tradition dictates, the rector, chair of the board and a student took the podium. This year, they were accompanied by the Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science, Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen. The speeches were heard by a packed Main Hall, and they included topics such as beef, sustainability, student well-being and curiosity as an important driving force.
The distinguished alumna of the year is Marianne Dahl. She has a Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, and she is a vice president at Microsoft, active in the public debate, and a role model for many women.
As always, the Aarhus University Anniversary Foundation presented its two awards in connection with the university's annual celebration. Professor Torben Bæk Hansen, Health, received the prize of honour for paedagogics, and Senior Consultant Jens Dybkjær Holbech, Science and Technology, received the research communication prize.
In connection with the annual celebration, Aarhus University appointed four honorary doctors and awarded four students with the HM Queen Margrethe II Travel Grant.
Last Friday, students celebrated the university’s anniversary with Denmark’s biggest Friday bar and sports day.
