Involvement

Throughout the process, staff and students have been actively involved in the development of the new Aarhus BSS campus.

Local working groups

Each department that is to move has a working group with representatives from the department. These groups contribute input on topics to be discussed during the construction and design phase. Examples of topics discussed by the working groups include:

  • furnishing of rooms
  • technical equipment
  • furnishing of meeting rooms, quiet rooms, depots, etc.
  • lighting and colors
  • and much more.

Students and student associations

Students are involved through student associations to develop an inspiring study environment.

Extensive consultation in autumn 2018

Staff and students must be involved when a major project such as the development of a new campus environment is on the agenda. In 2018, an extensive consultation was carried out to ensure that all good ideas and needs were heard. Two central questions were asked:

  • Which current physical facilities do we wish to continue/expand, and which facilities do we lack today?
  • A look into the crystal ball: What brand new opportunities and needs with an impact on the physical framework do we predict will arise in the next 5-10 years?

Content of the consultation

Before the consultation, departments, student representatives, and administrative managers were asked about various themes important in a development process. The initial considerations formed the basis of the questionnaire developed for the final consultation.

During the consultation, employees, students, the liaison committee organisation and occupational health and safety organisation.

Catalogue of questions – Campus 2.0, autumn 2018

The faculty management team had formulated a number of questions within six overall themes, which can be found in the catalogue of questions. The purpose of this catalogue was to spark discussion among staff and students at the entire faculty about the general wishes and needs that should be considered now it is important to already now consider in relation to AU's future physical surroundings.

Overall themes

The overall themes that formed the basis for the consultation were:

Through the physical surroundings how can we:

  • Create a good physical work environment for the employees and a good physical study environment for the students?
And thereby create the conditions for recruitment and retention of the most talented employees and students
  • Promote coherence between research and education and the interaction between researchers and students?
And thereby create the best conditions for research-based teaching, which is one of our most important core activities
  • Support future forms of teaching and research collaboration?
Which will help us deliver up-to-date and future-proof teaching and research of the highest quality
  • Ensure cohesion and flow of staff and students between the University City and University Park?
And thereby create a vibrant campus that makes the best possible use of the facilities on both sides of Nørrebrogade
  • Promote co-operation and interaction with society?
This will add value to both research and teaching, and help secure internships, thesis collaborations, student jobs, etc. and draw attention to our activities in the world around us
  • Further develop the university as an international campus?
And thereby make it easier to recruit excellent researchers and talented students from abroad and retain the international staff and students that we already have

Results from the consultation

The faculty's summary of the consultation was sent to the rector, after which all the input from all faculties was presented to the AU Board prior to the final adoption of the master plan in December 2018.
