Become a student mentor

Each year, the Mentor100 programme offers 100 Master’s degree students across Aarhus BSS the chance to get intensive and personal mentoring on the brink of their career. The programme is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and is aimed at students within all fields of study at Aarhus BSS. In addition, all employees who are Aarhus BSS alumni may sign up mentor a student.

Aarhus BSS has several different offers for students who are on the brink of their career and who are unsure of what to expect after they graduate. One of these offers is the Mentor100 programme, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. Each year, the programme offers 100 Master’s degree students the chance to receive help and mentoring from a carefully selected mentor, who is also an Aarhus BSS alum. The aim is to prepare students across all academic fields at Aarhus BSS for their career - both professionally and personally, says Susanne Søes Hejlsvig, who is responsible for the Mentor100 programme at Aarhus BSS Career and Alumni:

“Mentor100 is a really good offer for all students across Aarhus BSS, and it contributes to getting them off to a good start. Through close dialogue with an experienced and impartial mentor, the students get help and support at a time when they are unsure about a lot of things. This is something you can use, regardless of whether you study law, psychology, communication or economics.”

What can you do?

As a VIP or TAP employee at Aarhus BSS, you also have the opportunity to become a mentor. You only need to be an Aarhus BSS alum - i.e. a graduate from the former Faculty of Social Sciences or the former Aarhus School of Business -, have a minimum of two year’s work experience and, of course, a passion for mentoring and giving advice - and not just on academic matters. On the Mentor100 programme, personal mentoring is also important, just as the mentor and the mentee are equal partners in the mentoring process.

Dennis Arnsbæk, Communications Manager at Aarhus BSS Career and Alumni, is currently mentoring a student, and he is convinced that the process is as rewarding for him as it is for his mentee.

“I really enjoy being able to get a student off to a good start and pass on my own experiences,” he says.”I recognise many of my mentee’s challenges, and I actually feel like I am helping a younger version of myself. We touch upon a lot of different topics, which means that I am also learning a great deal about how to mentor people on a personal level.”

Practical info about Mentor100

The Mentor100 programme takes place from October until June. It consists of approx. 7 personal meetings between the mentor and the mentee and 3 to 4 joint inspiration events.  The application deadline for this year’s mentors is 1 June.
