Queer is an umbrella term that encompasses the different LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual/Agender and more) identities and experiences. At QueerAU, we aim to provide a social and academic space for queer people and allies (people who support but do not identify within the non-normative spectrum of genders and sexualities) at Aarhus University across all faculties, departments and administrative units.
We are a network that meets regularly to share experiences and build a collegial community based on our common interests and goals. Alongside our social activities, we aim to inform AU’s policies and practices by organising discussions, talks, campaigns and events to share our knowledge about anti-discrimination and minority perspectives. For example, we run campaigns to encourage the respectful use of personal pronouns in the workplace, and we organise participation in Aarhus Pride.
You don’t need to identify within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum to be part of QueerAU. We welcome anyone who is interested in listening to their queer colleagues and working to make Aarhus University a more inclusive environment for queer members of staff. Our meetings are collaborative, and we are open to suggestions for discussion topics and formats. QueerAU is organised by a small team who manage our email account, book rooms and handle other administrative matters.
If you’d like to join our meetings and activities, please write an e-mail to [email protected].
You’re also very welcome to contact us if you have any questions about our network. We won’t share your name or details about your participation in QueerAU without your permission.
