View the Rector's Christmas speech and budget on-line

The senior management team is inviting all members of staff to an informal Christmas gathering on Wednesday 19 December.

Here, Rector Lauritz B. Holm-Nielsen will look back on the past year and ahead to 2013. The speech will be recorded on video and subsequently made available at medarbejdere.au.dk for those unable to attend.

Earlier in the day, the University Board will approve the budget for 2013. The final budget will, like the speech, also be made available at medarbejdere.au.dk.

The Christmas event is being held for the first time in Stakladen, Nordre Ringgade, Aarhus C at 15.00 - 17.00. Traditional Danish æbleskiver and mulled wine will be served.

56 'acute' jobs for Aarhus University

On 24 October 2012, the Danish government signed an agreement with the Confederation of Danish Employers (DA), Local Government Denmark (LGDK), Danish Regions and the Ministry of Finance to create 1,200 'acute' jobs by 1 July 2013.

The aim is to help unemployed people who, from 1 October 2012 to 1 April 2013, have three months or less remaining of their unemployment benefit as well as those who, up until 1 July 2013, use up their total unemployment benefit period and who are still unemployed.

The Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education's total quota is 295 acute jobs, of which AU's share is 56 jobs. As a university, AU must bear the costs  of creating acute jobs. At the same time, it is expected that the Minister will be given the authority to redistribute funding if there are institutions which are either unable to fill or which exceed their allocated quota.

The employment period must be min. 13 weeks, and it is recommended that acute job employees have at least 25 hours of work a week. In principle, acute jobs can be advertised within all job categories, but as there has to be a realistic match between the position and the target group of long-term unemployed, the focus is mainly on technical/administrative staff. In relation to teaching and research staff, the only types of positions which are relevant for acute jobs are as research assistants and part-time teaching positions.

The acute job scheme will be discussed at the Main Liaison Committee (HSU) meeting on 18 December.

Calendar

  • 18 December: Main Liaison Committee (HSU) meeting, 12.00
  • 19 December: University Board meeting, 10.30
  • 19 December: Rector's Christmas speech, 15.00
