New development contracts for universities

Last week, the Danish institutions of higher education signed their new development contracts with the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.

The contracts include five themes which are decided by the minister, as well as a number of goals chosen by the individual institutions.

In coming years, the parameters according to which AU will be evaluated will include educational quality, internationalisation, talent development and business collaboration.


New university director Jane Kraglund starts at AU

Monday 5 January was Jane Kraglund's first working day as AU's new university director.

She was officially welcomed by the university's employees at a reception in Stakladen on Friday 9 January.

Jane Kraglund comes from a position as CEO at Odense University Hospital.


New vice-dean at Health

Charlotte Ringsted has taken up her position as new vice-dean for education at Health.

A welcome reception was held for her on Wednesday 7 January.

Charlotte Ringsted is taking over the position of vice-dean from Berit Eika, who was appointed pro-rector in July 2014.


Deputy director of IT and Digital Media steps down

Christina Breddam, deputy director of IT and Digital Media, has been offered a new job as faculty director at Aalborg University, and is therefore resigning at the end of January.

Christina Breddam was appointed deputy director of IT and Digital Media in connection with the reorganisation in October 2014.

During January, a decision will be made on how the division will be managed until a new deputy director is found.


Stronger partnership with VIA

Aarhus University and VIA University College have signed a new partnership agreement. The agreement was concluded during a meeting between Rector Brian Bech Nielsen and VIA's Rector Harald Mikkelsen last week.

The partnership agreement lays the groundwork for strengthened collaboration in the area of education, for example in connection with the recruitment of international students as well as degree programme, business and career guidance.

The agreement builds on the existing partnership with VIA, and has been concluded in the context of AU's social obligation to contribute to greater coherence in the educational system.


ERC Starting Grant for geoscience researcher

Jan-Pieter Buylaert, a postdoc at Geoscience, has been awarded the prestigious ERC Starting Grant of DKK 9.8 million.

Buylaert is a postdoc at AU and the Technical University of Denmark, where he is working to develop a method for determining the age of sediments, for example minerals. This will contribute to a more detailed understanding of the development of the Earth’s surface.


Former dean passes away

It is with great sadness that the senior management team learned of the death of former dean Tom Latrup-Pedersen, who passed away on 30 December 2014 at the age of 60.

Latrup-Pedersen worked at Aarhus University for more than 30 years, serving as assistant professor, director of studies, and department head at the Department of Law. In 1994, he was appointed vice-dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, after which he served as dean from 2002 to 2006.

Latrup-Pedersen will be warmly remembered as a well-liked colleague and for his considerable contribution to Aarhus University.
