Societal Readiness Level approach – New pilot in Horizon Europe

Work programmes with the various calls and topic descriptions for 2025 are now available as almost finished drafts. The European Commission is also well underway with the first outlines for the new framework programme for research, which will replace Horizon Europe at the end of 2027.

Therefore, the Commission is testing new ideas in so-called "pilots" before possible implementation in the new research programme. The pilot "Societal Readiness Level" (SRL) is expected to be tested in a limited number of calls under Pillar 2, Cluster 5 "Climate, Energy and Mobility". The introduction to the work programme describes the expectations as follows:

”The Societal Readiness approach aims, when integrated into R&I processes, to improve the consideration of different societal needs and concerns and to respond to them, thereby increasing the potential for societal uptake.”
